Real Purpose of Life.

Hare and Tortoise are within us.

Once upon a time, in a quiet village in our India, nestled between green fields and ancient banyan trees, lived a tortoise named Dhairya and a hare named Chanchal.

Hare was swift, proud of himself. He laughed at everyone, especially on the Tortoise, who walked slowly, spoke little, and spent his time in prayer and meditation near the river.

“Why do you even try to live like this?” mocked Hare one day. “The world belongs to the fast. You’ll never achieve anything at this pace.”

Tortoise smiled gently. “Each one of us walks the path that is meant for us. Life is not a race. It is a journey of karma and dharma.” Our efforts and deeds.

But Hare wouldn’t stop. He mocked Tortoise  in front of the other animals. Some laughed with him. Some remained silent. None came forward to support to Tortoise.

One fine morning, Hare challenged to Tortoise  for the  race.

“Let’s see whose way is better your slow prayers or my speed and power.”

Tortoise Dhairya folded his hands and nodded. “So be it. Let the Divine decide.”

The race began with great excitement. Hare Chanchal zoomed ahead, leaving behind clouds of dust. The animals cheered loudly.

But as Tortoise Dhairya began his slow steps, some animals mocked him. “Give up, old soul,” they jeered. “You can’t win. You’ll never make it.”

Some who could have helped, simply turned away. “Why waste our time on someone who is already losing?” they said.

But Tortoise Dhairya did not stop. He moved slowly, his eyes on the path, whispering mantras as he walked. When the sun was hot, he took shelter under trees. When his feet hurt, he paused and prayed for strength. He didn’t curse his fate, nor blame others. He believed: "This too shall pass. Keep walking. Karma never forgets."

Meanwhile, Hare was far ahead, but his pride grew bigger than his speed. Seeing no one behind, he decided to rest. Under a shady mango tree, he laughed to himself, “This race is already mine.”

And slowly, the comfort of pride turned into sound sleep. Time passed.

Tortoise Dhairya kept walking. Bruised, tired, hungry. But he didn’t give up. “O Lord,” he whispered, “my strength is small, but I surrender to Your will. Help me to fulfill my karma.”

At last, just as the stars blinked into the sky, Tortoise Dhairya reached the final destination.

The saints sitting nearby blessed him. “You walked with patience, pain, and faith. You reached not just the end of the race, but the depth of life.”

Moments later, hare Chanchal woke up with a jolt. The sky was dark. He ran with all his might but it was too late.

Tortoise Dhairya had already won.

The animals gathered. Some were ashamed. Some whispered among themselves. The ones who mocked, now avoided his eyes.

Tortoise Dhairya didn’t boast. He simply bowed to the heavens and said, “Let no one be mocked for their speed or struggle. Everyone has their own karma to fulfill.”

“This is not just a story of speed or slowness. This is the story of our life. How the world often cheers the loudest for winners, but forgets the silent struggler. Of how those who walk alone, carrying burdens and tears, are watched silently by the One above.

The lesson echoed through the village:

“One who walks steadily on the path of truth, even through pain and rejection, is always protected by Divine justice.

The tortoise’s tale became a reminder: The world may favour the fast, but the universe honours the faithful.

Moral of the Story:

This race is still on, even today. Those who rise too quickly and fly too high often fade away in the end. But those who keep walking with courage, without losing hope, may arrive late but they win.

So, keep your feet grounded. Respect the struggle of others. Everything here is temporary. What truly lasts is patience, humility, and unwavering efforts.

No one has come into this world to stay forever. Time slowly dissolves each one of us. Our body, our wealth, our name and fame, our house, car, and money, everything will be left behind, and time will take us away. We will return here to play a new role again.

We are here to live this life with this awareness and for our spiritual progress but we have forgotten this reality.

This story serves as a reminder of that truth.

Remember, God is continuously watching over us. Don’t compare yourself with others. We are  writing our own karmas. The hare and the tortoise live within us as our ego and courage. Decide: to whom do you wish to support?

Think of it. Best wishes. 🌹
